ASHDOWN, Ark.—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking applications from hunters aged 15 and younger who want to participate in a special deer hunt Nov. 1 and 2 at Millwood Lake. Four permits will be issued to young hunters who seek to experience the outdoors and have a great place to hunt that is normally closed to hunting.
Applicants must submit a completed application form to the Corps by Sept. 30. A random drawing will be held Oct. 1 to select the four hunters. Applicants must have parental permission, and they must be accompanied on the days of the hunt by an adult assistant 21 years old or older.
Two permits will be available for rifle only and two permits will be available for muzzleloader, shotgun or archery equipment.
This hunt will provide a great opportunity for youth hunters to hunt near food plots without pressure from other hunters in the woods. Hunting blinds will be provided.
Surveys have been conducted to ensure resources are properly conserved and public safety is considered. Hunters must provide their own firearms or archery equipment. Also, youths must be old enough and skilled enough to safely operate the firearms they bring to the hunt.
Application forms may be obtained at the Corps’ Millwood Tri-Lakes Project Office at 1528 Highway 32 E, Ashdown, Ark. 71822, by calling (870) 898-3343 Ext. 122, or by e-mail at
