Little Rock Sewer System to Reach Capacity Due to Excessive Rain

In the past two days, the City of Little Rock has received an historic amount of rainfall, resulting from the remnants of Hurricane Gustav. A total of 5½ inches of rain has accumulated in a 24 hour period. This large amount of storm water runoff will inevitably impact Little Rock’s sanitary sewer system, causing it to reach capacity.

Little Rock Wastewater has been monitoring the situation with the latest technology and will continue to do so on a 24 hour basis. Overflows are likely to occur at manhole covers located in low lying areas of the city. Should overflows occur, you are advised to report the overflow location to Little Rock Wastewater at 223-1509.

Fortunately, there is no immediate health risk or concern for public safety. However, Little Rock Wastewater wanted to inform citizens of the possibility so that they would know what to do should an overflow occur.
