Look for Venus, Jupiter and Saturn in October

Beginning tonight, look westward toward the setting sun and catch a glimpse of Venus shining brightly in the early evening sky. The moon will appear nearby Venus and will be in a waxing crescent phase.

At that time, Venus will be the brightest of the planets visible to us. But both the moon and Venus will set soon after the Sun.

imageMars is barely distinguishable at all right now as it travels further from Earth. It appears as just a small star in the western sky, also at sunset, to the right of Venus.

Jupiter is still making an appearance in the October sky as a bright star in the southwest.

Also in October, just before sunrise, Saturn will become a bright object in the eastern sky.
